Mushrooms Greeting Card

SKU: GC044
  • Date: 1936

    Origin: Vanoutryve Factory, Roubaix, France.

Mushrooms (ref VAN8039) is from Roubaix, France. The point paper was purchased by Richard M R Smith in 2018 from part of the archive from the French weaver Vanoutryve. Velvet and tapestry specialists Vanoutryve were based in Roubaix where they manufactured for over 100 years.

This artwork was drawn up by experienced designer J. Plaitain in October 1936. Company records show that this artist was employed at the Mill in 1897. Not too much moving from job to job in these days!

The point paper is 4(pick) x 8 (end) grid on paper made by respected supplier Bellavone, Paris. The design on this point paper has a 410ends x 252 cards repeat. The fabric was probably a tapestry style as a multi-colour stripe warp plan is detailed at the foot of the point paper.

This point paper design detail could enable Jacquard weavers today to reproduce their fabric from.
