Pheonix Half-size Point Paper
Date: July 1924
Origin: Bergerot Mill, Cysoing. France
The original point paper (ref Ber 9006 ) is the French weaver Bergerot’s production number. Bergerot was a renowned family business established in 1854 by M. Bergerot in the small town of Cysoing southeast of Paris near Roubaix and Lille. They specialised in luxury Jacquard woven fabrics.
The original point paper has 6 sections and the document has the date 18th July 1924 on the reverse along with technical settings. We know the original art was subcontracted to a Design studio in Roubaix called Adelphe and signed by F. Florgais. Roubaix was a textile-producing hotbed at this time.
The shuttle looms of the day in 1924, will have woven approx. 1/2” of fabric per minute. The full repeat of the design had a long repeat of 2112 weft picks and was developed with 6 different weaves to produce a heavy textured Classic damask.
