Red Green Thistles is from an original point paper (ref AH6594) which we believe was drawn up in between 1924 and 1936 in East Germany. We estimate these dates as we know that the maker of the point paper traded between these years. The Mill and designer are not known.
The archive was purchased in Como by E&S Smith of Bradford UK in 1998 from an International Textile salvage specialist. This artwork was part of a large collection from East Germany that was discovered in 1989 just after the unification of East and West Germany.
