Life-size Emoji Point Paper
Date: 11th Feb 1974
Origin: Bentley Walbank, Bingley, UK
The original point paper (ref ESS 1578) design was drawn up from a sketch at public designers Bentley Walbank, Bingley, West Yorkshire. We do not know the artist or end customer.
E&S Smith chose a mixture of 5 end weaves to develop this utility fabric. The heavy red areas are a 5 end left and right symmetrical twill satin surrounding a standard ¼ weft sateen.
The factory was weaving with Northrop looms which had two Bradford made Samuel Dracup Jacquards above it with 300 hooks on each. The harness had a set of 96 ends per inch with 8 repeats across the 48-inch width.
400 pattern weft cards were set with a 32 pick per inch gear. The resulting soft furnishing fabric had a 6” width x 12” length repeat as numerous fabric designs the Mill was weaving for different fabric wholesalers at the time.
