  • Date: 9th May 1939

    Origin: Cysoing, France

The original point paper (ref Ber 10104/4592) where 10104 is the French weaver Bergerot’ s production number and the 4592 relates to the quality.

Other references for the Brocatelle weave development on this free-flowing floral design include the 1162 artwork reference.

We do not know the original artist nor from which Design studio this work came from. Bergerot did commission a number of Paris based studios and sourced art from local designers based near Roubaix and Lille which were textile producing hotbeds at this time.

It is interesting to see that beautiful art was still being drawn and utilised for furnishing fabrics in May 1939, so close to the outbreak of World War 2. Hopefully, this art realised its worth with orders of the  fabric that was woven.
