    Origin: Great Harwood,Blackburn,UK

The original point paper (ref WB 119) was produced at Wm Birtwistle (Damask) Ltd of Great Harwood, Blackburn in the early 1950s.

Mr P. Myerscough was the head designer at this time but there is no indication he painted or cut the cards for this particular simple textured design. The factory had 200 looms, 20 of which were Jacquard at the time.

We know this fabric was woven on their 100 end per inch setting with a thick cotton weft on a viscose warp creating a textured surface which was matt and shiny effect. With a 6” width repeat and approx. 10" length the overall look would have a basket weave look. The Mill also wove a finer loom setting for fine damask curtains.

The business was sold to the Courtaulds group in the 1960s and closed in 1979. The Mill was demolished several years later.
