Water Lily Point Paper
Date: 1920s
Origin: East Germany
Water Lily life-size art is a reproduction of an original point paper from East Germany. The point paper was purchased in Como, Italy in May 2000 by Richard M R Smith, who ran his family jacquard fabric weaver, E & S Smith of Stadium Mills, Odsal, Bradford at this time.
This artwork was part of a collection ‘rediscovered’ after the reunification of East and West Germany in 1989. The collection was found by returning family members at their family Mill premises which had been locked and boarded up as left by their fleeing relatives in East Germany.
We estimate that this design was drawn up and then 1st woven in the early 1920’s because of the low production number 3393. We know that production numbers within the collection from this mill numbered >6000 were woven in 1936
